The Screenshot Problem
I had 1,847 screenshots on my phone. Most of them were memes.
Some were funny. Some were profound. Some were inside jokes that would only make sense to three people on Earth, and I was one of them. But here's the thing: I'd never look at them again.
They'd just sit there, buried in my camera roll, getting pushed further down every time I took another picture. And when I finally cleared space for an iOS update? Gone. All of it. Screenshots that made me laugh at 2 AM, deleted to make room for system files.
That felt wrong.
Print-on-Demand Is Broken (for Memes)
I tried the existing options. They all sucked in different ways.
Option 1: "Design your own" merch sites.
These give you a blank canvas and expect you to be a graphic designer. Text placement tools. Color wheels. Layers. I don't want to design a mug. I want to put a meme on a mug. There's a difference.
Option 2: Pre-made meme merch stores.
These sell products with trending memes already on them. Great, except none of them are my memes. I don't want the generic "Distracted Boyfriend" with someone else's caption. I want the specific screenshot from that one conversation that changed my entire worldview for 48 hours.
Option 3: Do it myself.
Upload a low-res JPEG to Printful, cross my fingers, and hope it doesn't come out pixelated garbage. Spoiler: it usually does. Screenshots aren't print-ready. Compressed social media images aren't print-ready. That thing you saved from Reddit in 2019? Definitely not print-ready.
None of these solved the actual problem: turning the memes I already have into merch that doesn't suck.
Building for Ourselves First
Memeabilia started because I wanted it to exist and it didn't.
I'm not a designer. I'm not a photographer. I'm someone who appreciates good internet content and wants to own a physical version of it. So I built the tool I wanted:
