Why We Built Memeabilia

The Screenshot Problem

I had 1,847 screenshots on my phone. Most of them were memes.

Some were funny. Some were profound. Some were inside jokes that would only make sense to three people on Earth, and I was one of them. But here's the thing: I'd never look at them again.

They'd just sit there, buried in my camera roll, getting pushed further down every time I took another picture. And when I finally cleared space for an iOS update? Gone. All of it. Screenshots that made me laugh at 2 AM, deleted to make room for system files.

That felt wrong.

Print-on-Demand Is Broken (for Memes)

I tried the existing options. They all sucked in different ways.

Option 1: "Design your own" merch sites.

These give you a blank canvas and expect you to be a graphic designer. Text placement tools. Color wheels. Layers. I don't want to design a mug. I want to put a meme on a mug. There's a difference.

Option 2: Pre-made meme merch stores.

These sell products with trending memes already on them. Great, except none of them are my memes. I don't want the generic "Distracted Boyfriend" with someone else's caption. I want the specific screenshot from that one conversation that changed my entire worldview for 48 hours.

Option 3: Do it myself.

Upload a low-res JPEG to Printful, cross my fingers, and hope it doesn't come out pixelated garbage. Spoiler: it usually does. Screenshots aren't print-ready. Compressed social media images aren't print-ready. That thing you saved from Reddit in 2019? Definitely not print-ready.

None of these solved the actual problem: turning the memes I already have into merch that doesn't suck.

Building for Ourselves First

Memeabilia started because I wanted it to exist and it didn't.

I'm not a designer. I'm not a photographer. I'm someone who appreciates good internet content and wants to own a physical version of it. So I built the tool I wanted:

  • Upload whatever image you have. Screenshot, meme, photo, drawing β€” doesn't matter.
  • AI enhancement makes it print-ready. No design skills needed. The upscaling happens automatically.
  • See it on real products instantly. Mockups load in seconds. What you see is what you get.
  • Buy it if you want it. No account required. Stripe checkout. Printful fulfillment. Done.

The entire flow takes under 2 minutes. That's the point. I didn't want a project. I wanted a mug.

The Gap in the Market

Here's what nobody talks about: meme culture moves faster than merch does.

By the time a trend goes mainstream enough for someone to make pre-designed merch, the format is already stale. The real juice is in the personal stuff β€” the niche references, the in-jokes, the screenshots that only make sense if you were there.

That content doesn't scale. It's not worth a brand's time to produce. But for you? It's the most valuable image on your phone.

Memeabilia exists to bridge that gap. You bring the content. We handle the technical stuff. The result is merch that's actually personal.

Why Physical Meme Merch Matters

This isn't about nostalgia. It's about presence.

A meme on your phone is ephemeral. It scrolls away. It gets buried. It disappears when you switch apps. But a meme on your desk? That's a conversation starter. On your laptop? That's identity. On a hoodie? That's a signal to everyone around you about what makes you laugh.

Physical objects have weight. They take up space. They sit in your line of sight every day. And when something sits in your line of sight, it becomes part of your environment. Your brain registers it. You smile when you see it. Other people notice it and ask about it.

Internet culture is real culture. The jokes we share, the formats we iterate on, the specific images that hit different β€” they deserve to exist outside the timeline. Memeabilia is just the infrastructure to make that happen.

What's Next

Right now, we're laser-focused on one thing: making the core experience flawless.

Upload β†’ Enhance β†’ Shop β†’ Buy. That flow needs to be fast, reliable, and obvious. No confusion. No friction. Just the thing you want, delivered.

Once that's rock-solid, we'll expand:

  • Direct URL imports β€” paste a link, we'll grab the image for you
  • Bulk orders β€” team merch, event swag, party favors
  • Community drops β€” curated collections around specific formats or themes

But for now? We're focused on doing one thing better than anyone else: turning your favorite image into something you can hold.

One More Thing

Memeabilia is a one-person operation. No VC funding. No team. No office. Just me, AI tools, and an unhealthy amount of caffeine.

I'm building this because I want it to exist. And I'm building it the way I wish more internet products were built: simple, fast, honest, and actually useful.

If that resonates, try it out. Upload something. Hit Meme it✨. See what happens.

You might end up with a mug you actually like.
